A wire harness must be well planned out. You would need to know the wire runs of every associated wire, the wire color, the locations, the length of each, and more importantly,  the wire identification.
This is done through engineering drawings, or whats commonly referred to “As built” drawings.
 A wire harness is a group of wires that will be used to connect sub-assemblies together or other major components together.

 Once the major components are installed, the wire harness is put in place and securely mounted and the ends are connected to their proper sub components. A test is usually done to confirm each connection was done correctly.
